Metal Book Club started in 2013 when I went to a taping of That Metal Show
Yeah, it was as cool as it sounds. Here I am shaking hands with Josh Rand from Stone Sour I actually got to ask a question of Josh on camera, but sadly it ended up on the editing room floor. It was a long day; I had flown from my Pacific Northwest home to LA just for the taping. My awesome sister in law and her hubby (S and M) came with me and we had an amazing time. It took like six hours to shoot two one hour episodes. While waiting in line, we got to talkin' with all the other Metalheads in the crowd. It was totally cool, everyone was really chill. We just talked about favorite this and most listened to that and which was a band people should totally listen to. A great day and thanks to S&M for helping it to happen.
But I went home and there was an emptiness, something missing in my life.
More Metal talk.
I had gotten a little stale in my album list. I had gotten Worship Music, maybe another one or two, but not a lot of new stuff. I was listening to my dear sweet mom talk about her book club, when it hit me.
A Metal Book Club.
But instead of reading books (which we did) we listened to, and reviewed, Metal albums. Maybe Heavy Metal, Glam, Neu, even a dose or three of just Hard Rock, or major influences. And the 'We'? I knew a couple of people at my office were into Metal, having gone to two Iron Maiden shows with one buddy. But it turns out he knew a dude that also loved, and so on until we had a good core of 8 headbangers. We get together every 3 to 6 weeks and we compare notes, share concert stories and any tidbits about music. Two of our members are/were in bands, including the bassist from One For The Wolves and the drummer from one now defunct band. Our buddy C-Note plays guitars, but he isn't in a band. ("They make music, I make sound" says C-Note.)
We've been doing this for over a year. Enjoying Metal and spreading our wings, one session at a time. And frankly, it was time to share. So find a few friends, or make new ones, and start your own club. If you don't spread Metal who will?
Start your own MBC today!!
Special thanks to Jordan who made me start it, then left for Europe, the dude who made the font in the logo, my buddies Bad Jimmy, "My Danzig Story Rocks" CP, Connor, KS, Scotty2Hotty, The Kid and a super thanks to all the bands out there putting out music and making the world a loud place to live. All photos in the headers have been taken by me, so copyright me I guess. All names, logos, musics, tunes, hairspray and codpieces all belong to those that they belong to, we don't claim them, and only use them out of love and respect. I make no promises, no guarantees and if the crap gets real, I had nothing to do with it.
Now go buy an album and listen to it with friends.
